Good first night: Milan beat Firenze 3-0 in the season opener
Good first night. At the Allianz Cloud, Numia Vero Volley Milano beat Il Bisonte Firenze 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-20) in the opening round of LVF A1 Fineco, with two comebacks in the first and third sets.
Led by captain Paola Egonu, MVP and top scorer with 27 points, Gianlorenzo Blengini's side produced some outstanding play in defence and attack in front of 4,460 spectators. The block worked too: 11 winning blocks.
Blengini started Bosio-Egonu, Lanier and Piva on the wings, Danesi and Kurtagić in the middle with Fersino at libero. Milan moved 18-15 ahead and took the first set 25-20; the second finished 25-22; in the third Firenze led 11-15 before Lanier drove the comeback and Milan closed it 25-20. Yoshino Sato made her debut in the Vero Volley shirt at the end of the first set.
«It was a positive debut and we got the three points. We started a little tense and emotional in front of a fantastic crowd, but we showed a lot of good things,» said Anna Danesi. «Our main strength was once again Paola Egonu: she will be our reference all season».
It was Blengini's first official match in women's volleyball. Next up, the season's first away trip, to Macerata.
